Traditional Portuguese ceramic tiles redesigned. “Pombalino” is the term used to describe tiles with this kind of pattern.
They were very common during the reconstruction of the city of Lisbon, following the earthquake of 1755. They’re still present in some older Portuguese kitchens, bathrooms, entry halls and patio walls.
In order to modernise the design, I took a silhouette of the flower on old tiles and simplified its shape. Did several stroke and colour tests, as well as some mockups.
